DESCRIPTION: The Scriptwriters Network (SWN) sponsors fellowship awards
for high school students who want to learn to write movie and
television scripts. Please visit our Youth (formerly High School) Fellowship educational
video on You Tube!
BENEFITS: The selected high school fellows will receive books, Write
Brothers Movie Magic screenwriting software, admission to monthly
screenwriting lectures at Raleigh Studios and CBS Radford Studios,
and a personal mentor for creative feedback and guidance on a
short film script completed within the fellowship program.
ELIGIBILITY: The Youth Fellowship Program is open to students currently
enrolled in high school who have not yet graduated.
ENTRY FEE: FREE
OCCURRENCE: The Youth Fellowship Program is available year round.
Entries must be mailed to the Scriptwriters Network at 121 West
Lexington Drive, #254, Glendale, CA 91203. Only the selected high
school fellows will be notified.
PROCESS: SWN members will evaluate the submissions and choose fellows
to participate in the program. Each fellow will be assigned a
mentor to guide them in the completion of a 10-page short film
script. The fellowship is not intended to be a "classroom" or
"teaching" situation. It is an opportunity for the fellows to
experience the world of screenwriting through participating in
the fellowship program, attending the Speaker and Seminar Series,
utilizing the tape and script libraries, and networking with the
adult writers in the organization.
High Praise
from our Youth Fellows!
"Writing the short screenplay at the Scriptwriters Network,
and seeing it performed, was a big accomplishment for me; getting
chosen was also a big accomplishment in itself! I'm sure that's
a part of the reason why I got into college in the first place.
I just want to keep writing and keep practicing, and hopefully
make this into some sort of career. "
-Genevieve Geoghan,
2005-2006 Fellow
"The experience affected me in many ways. I would have never
have had enough courage to apply to many competitions and programs
without the confidence that the fellowship engraved into me.
The program made me feel valid and worthy, and I owe much to
the Scriptwriters Network."
