Our meetings are held every month and they are located on Universal Studios Backlot the second Saturday, CBS Studios in Studio City the third Saturday and Showbiz Café & Store in West Los Angeles, the forth Saturday. Our meetings run from 1:00pm to approximately 3:00pm. If the candidate(s) meets our requirements below and is selected, they will have a free membership as long as they continue to volunteer competently and consistently in that capacity. If you are good at maintaining a website please contact webmaster@scriptwritersnetwork.org TV Outreach Program (TOP) Readers Work with the Carl Sautter Memorial TV Outreach Program (TOP) Directors, one for dramas and one for sitcoms. Duties include: reading scripts submitted, either hard copy or online; evaluating script, Carefully, Concisely, and Constructively; and filling out the evaluation form using the prior listed 3Cs. The time commitment depends on how long it takes the TOP Reader Volunteer to read and fill out the evaluation form. Skills needed: good idea of story and structure, good grammar, and punctuation; firm grasp of TV Series that is being critiqued (i.e. show's tone and character voices); and ability to be constructive, not rude. Volunteer perk includes: evaluation and completion of 5 scripts = 4 free months of membership. Duties include: cold calling production companies, agents, and managers to get them on board as Friends of the Network; recruiting production companies, agencies, and management firms; working with HOP Director to create a "Friends of the Network" database; and assembling and mailing of press kits, press releases, etc. to production companies, agencies, and management firms; and producing staged readings of HOP Winners and inviting the Industry. The time commitment is 1-2 hours per week. In conjunction with the 3-4 member Outreach Task Force sub-committee, each volunteer will be responsible for two or more duties. Consistency will be the key. The HOP Outreach Assistant needs to be professional, courteous, discreet, and not afraid to cold call or contact production companies, agencies or management firms; and be good at writing professional letters. Also, the volunteer should be detailed-oriented, along with having good organization and follow-up skills. If you have two (2) of these attributes, HOP wants you! Volunteer perks include: making great industry contacts for potential use; potentially high industry visibility; great learning tools how to develop excellent phone skills and confidence with dealing with the Industry; potential to be a HOP Committee Member; and either one free entry into the HOP Competition or free membership, for the duration of your term as HOP Outreach Assistant. Duties include: reviewing incoming coverage from Readers for appropriateness; possible reading of scripts and writing coverage; creating a Reader's bio/experience file; sending Reader's Questionnaire to the Writers; keeping file of questionnaire; helping coordinate "Reader of the Year" awards ceremony; help to coordinate "Reader Mixer;" and recruiting new Readers. The time commitment is 1-2 hours per week, but heavier during beginning and ending of sessions, or with special events. In conjunction with the 3-4 member Reader Task Force sub-committee, each volunteer will be responsible for two or more duties. Consistency will be the key. The HOP Reader Assistant needs to be good with people, have good organization and follow-up skills. Also, the volunteer should be detailed-oriented, and having a working knowledge of script analysis is a plus, but not necessary, as training will be provided. Duties include: updating the SWN Web site (including the HOP submission form and winner page); notifying the Publicity Director of "Winner" scripts for ad and press release purposes; write articles for newsletter announcing program updates/changes and "Winner" scripts; interviewing past or present Winners and write articles for the SWN Newsletter; creating new files, charts, etc.; updating Readers' contact info, credits, Winners Forms, charts, etc.; and handling special assignments as needed. The time commitment is 1-3 hours per week. In conjunction with the 3-4 member Outreach Task Force sub-committee, each volunteer will be responsible for two or more duties. Consistency will be the key.
